Letter from Dr. Dosia Carlson, Secretary of Center for Lifelong Learners at Beatitudes Campus
May 22, 2017
Dear Allen,
Residents here at the Beatitudes Campus are still raving about the course you taught this past spring. Your "Grand Tradition of the Violin" proved to be one of the most successful classes we have offered through our Center for Lifelong Learners (LLL.) At the last meeting of our LLL committee, I learned that your class is the only one during our four years in which ALL students rated the instructor "excellent." Congratulations.
How fortunate I felt to be one of your students. I appreciated your historical approach and the very helpful handouts you prepared. Of course, to hear you illustrate many of your points as you played your violin was a huge bonus. As you explained various parts of the violin and bow I came to a new understanding of that great instrument. And you even brought actual pieces that comprise a violin.
Here are examples of statements from your students: "Brilliant instructor - enjoyed the violin demonstrations." "Allen did a great job of selecting works for listening, anecdotes about music and musicians, and demonstrating techniques." ". . . He projected his voice well. Good sense of humor." Wide knowledge and talent. Amazing."
Now those unable to register for your class this spring are eager to enroll in the fall as you repeat your class. Thank you for enriching our Center for Lifelong Learners.
